[ profile] caia_comica said I should mention JLI ANNUAL #5. So I am.

It's an Elseworlds story, although less Else than some are. The basic concept is that there's a relatively small number of superhumans in the world, all of whom are, despite their best efforts, feared and hated by everyone else, and who have split into two factions as a result, with the more violent one being headed by a mentally unstable character with magnetic powers, and--wait, which company published this again? :)

Anyway, if you're going to do that kind of story, you have to have your paramilitary anti-mutant superhuman squad, and we do. With Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. No, seriously.

They're all...military and stuff.

Although apparently Booster is still all about the football

And Superman makes everything better. Also, that's a...scary-looking Poison Ivy.

This just amuses me so much.

And then they all join the Justice League! And live happily ever after, or at least until the Sentinels show up. I'm just saying.

And now I am very tired, so I'm going to bed.

Also: I had a conversation with [ profile] caia_comica last night, which led to me thinking about Booster as a knight in golden glowing enchanted armor, and the picture just won't go away, which would be less of an issue if I could draw. Or if I was going to write it. Which I'm not. Especially since trying to translate Beetle into the same context is giving me a headache, even though Guy translates just fine with his magic sword. (Okay, so technically what's he's got is already a magic ring, but what's the point if people stay the same? Besides, I like visualizing Guy with a magic sword.) But just having Booster and Guy would be a disaster. So I'm not thinking about this. Really.

In an effort to make myself feel better, I've been reading my old Giffen/Dematteis JLI comics. And I have random comments to share.

(If you haven't read the books, this won't be terribly comprehensible. Go look them up instead. They're far more entertaining than anything I'm going to say.)

Once upon a time in the 80s... )
