Vote super!

I love my comics shop. They're on the subway line, they have shelves and shelves of graphic novels, and every so often they do something like this: Marvel and DC presidential primaries on Free Comic Books Day. Totally my kind of political event. *g* Sadly you have to come to the store to vote, but if you live in the DC area I encourage you to come by--free comics and the chance to be heard about which superhero ought to be president!
My random thoughts on the nominees:
Marvel:
Ms. Marvel--I am handicapped by lack of experience here, and much of what I have seen of Carol involved her being...not at her best. That aside, she is clearly experienced and competent, but seems more of a hands-on person.
Nick Fury--Hey, he runs everything as it is! Why not make it official? Also he is at least conversant with the concept of delegation, unlike, say...
Daredevil--Oh, good lord, no. I love Matt Murdock dearly, but he does not do well with either the big picture or the long term. Also he would give the Secret Service enormous migraines (even if he had given up vigilante activities for the duration, he is physically addicted to adrenaline). Matt is fine where he is, although if someone wants to make Foggy Nelson Attorney General, I wouldn't object.
Green Goblin--Quite competent, as evil overlords go. I'm still holding a grudge over Harry, however (any of them, doesn't matter which), so no Osborn vote here. Sadly Victor Von Doom does not meet the citizenship requirements....
Iron Man--Er. I am honestly very fond of Tony, and he has considerably more experience in this line than many people on this list, but...he will have to get back to me on this when he has stopped being evil. (And to be honest, even when he's not evil he's kind of a control freak; listening to others has never been his strong suit.)
Mr. Fantastic--Yeah, this is also not a good time for me to be voting for Reed. Smartest guy on the planet, no question (hush, Victor, who keeps winning again?) but I am not over the whole "I have to do horrible things because the math says so" thing. He can be one of the President's advisors any day, but he needs someone else reviewing the plans for common sense.
She-Hulk--Intelligent, passionate, flexible, has legal experience, is not evil... (I may have missed stuff in all the crossover books I wasn't reading, but as far as her own title is concerned.) She's in kind of a bad mood at present, admittedly, but I'm sure it will pass.
Professor X--I suppose I can't be critical of Reed and Tony about the whole ends and means thing and then be completely positive about Charles, but...he's such an idealist, I find myself having difficulty judging too harshly. (Also I have not read certain stories of recent years, so I can sort of halfway pretend they didn't happen.) I'd be concerned about electing a telepath--any telepath--to that position, though; it's not that I think he'd go in with the intention of altering minds (or he would have done it already), but it would be four years of constant and seductive temptation. Also, even if he wasn't doing it, everyone would assume that he was, which would not help anything.
DC:
Steel--I am not all that familiar with the character, to be honest--one day I will go back and pick up his solo series, really!--but what I have gathered is that he's very very smart, reasonably level-headed, and just generally a really good guy. Definitely deserves serious consideration.
Lois Lane--I have some trouble, here; it's just that Lois has a job that she's pretty much married to (her actual husband may figure in there somewhere, I suppose... :) Also they've got a new kid who's still struggling to adapt; it may not be the best time for major life upheavals. It's a helluva image, though, especially in tandem with LuthorCorp President Lana Lang. The LLs will rule the world!
Will Magnus--Um, I'm mostly working off 52, so I'm kind of concerned about the mental problems. I grant you it would be an entertaining meltdown, and if the country is going to be taken over by machine intelligences the Metal Men are totally the ones I want doing it, but still...
Green Arrow--*cackles maniacally* Yes. Right. Because we just saw how well that works out... Points for entertainment value (and good intentions, admittedly) but so many negative points for everything else. If the system worked that way I'd vote him for VP, though, just to watch the show.
Green Lantern (animated)--Practical, strong-minded, and the military background doesn't hurt, but I'm not sure how familiar he is with this planet any more. Also, holding political power is likely to be something members of his League are biased against, for various reasons. We could do way worse, though.
Batman--Okay, yes, he's a tactical genius and all, but aside from maybe needing some vague sort of people skills to be president (pretending to be an airhead is useful but ought not to be the sum total of the skillset), I'm not handing the resources of the US military over to the guy who came up with the OMAC project. Sooner or later someone will get their hands on his latest doomsday plan--because they always do--and, well, it'll be messy.
James Gordon--Intelligent, honest, has long experience in holding public office (and does not flinch when it turns into essentially a front-line military position), can deal well with difficult personalities, and unlike many people on this list is totally sane. My current DC front-runner.
Amanda Waller--Well, the DC side didn't have any evil overlords yet... Amanda has skills in this arena, no question (she's probably the only person on this list with an actual background in politics), but her niche is black ops, and she knows it; she belongs nowhere near the Oval Office unless we're on the losing end of an alien invasion or something equally drastic. (And even then, it's probably not the best use of her talents.) Still, I am tempted. Just for the trainwreck.
Unfortunately there is no write-in category, because Alan Scott should really, really be an option. (Or Captain America. Yeah, okay, he's dead, but in the Marvel Universe I do not see where this should stop anyone!)
