The end of the story

My grandmother passed away yesterday morning. By that time it wasn't a surprise; she wasn't conscious and she wasn't going to get better. She didn't want any extreme measures taken; she'd said goodbye to my grandfather and she was at peace when she died.

None of which makes it okay, but it's as good as anyone gets. My thanks for the good wishes expressed here.
