...so I find myself idly staring at a FedEx Envelope (am I bored? A little) and I discover that it has this written across the top:

"Do not ship liquids, blood, or diagnostics in this packaging."

Which is...kind of interesting. As warning labels go.

I think it's the fact that having just told you not to put liquids in there, they proceed to specifically warn you against blood. Because, apparently, blood is such a popular thing to FedEx that it needs its own warning.

Also, I confess to wondering what kind of morons need to be told not to ship liquids in a flat cardboard envelope that isn't made for anything thicker than a thin folder. But that's just people being stupid, I can sort of follow that. I really want to know why they're FedExing all this blood, though.

Can only speak for myself, but a great deal of blood samples needs to be shipped -- also cells, which are maintained in liquid media containing contain bovine serum.

They just want to keep us from pouring all that blood direct into the envelope :-)

ahh not meaning to be picky but I believe blood isnt classified as a liquid but as a plasma and thus a semi-solid, like magma.

but yes many people are weird and like to do stupid or silly things-- one man tried to ship a shake across country.

You are entirely welcome. Believe me, only the knowledge that it was going to someone who would cherish it deeply allowed me to give it up. :)

Well, if you're talking a pretty flat plastic bag, I think it could probably fit...as long as the sample wasn't too large. A small petri dish could also fit into one of those suckers, maybe?

I must admit, I'm stuck on the mental image of whoever has to sign for that package.
