You know, maybe it's just me, but I happen to think that when you post a gloating, immature, frankly insulting little rant to a mailing list...you can't get out of it by saying that if it isn't an accurate description of the people in question, then there's no insult.

*mutters*

See, when people post stuff like that, I get insanely nosycurious.

It's nobody you would know, I don't think, and as I am unable to be either tactful or rational on the subject it may be best that I don't give names. Let's just say that somebody needs a major reality check on the difference between "I disagree with people about a creator's work" and "They are brainwashed worshippers of the creator, and I should taunt them in a manner that makes me sound like a six-year-old."

And in further news, this person has now compared these other listmembers to Nazis. No, I'm not kidding. I knew she was a moron, but I hadn't quite realized how much of a moron.

Ah yes, the "But it's *true*!" defense. Somewhere in the US, Miss Manners is crying.

I don't know why people cannot understand the simple fact that saying bad things about people is mean, whether or not they're true. Okay, I'm short, surly, pig-headed, and often ditzy. But that doesn't mean I appreciate *other* people saying so, unless they're really good friends and "Smile when you say that, mister."

Huh I don't get that. I have heard the "if it's true it's not an insult but blunt" defense (like if you're overweight, and someone calls you "fat" instead of more politer descriptives), but if it isn't an accurate description, surely then it is an insult without doubt?

I think, if you asked the person in question, she would explain it as some variation on "Well, if this doesn't describe you, then you weren't who I was talking about anyway." Which is, in fact, a useful distinction to make sometimes when you make a general statement to a large audience, but in this particular case she's clearly addressing her statements to people who've posted on the list, and there just aren't a lot of possibilities who those people are, so...it's not a very persuasive argument.
