One other note about LSH #7...

Rereading the previous issues, I'm really starting to wonder to what degree Cos is jumping at shadows as far as Brainy is concerned. Yes, Brainy has his own plans for the Legion--specifically, he wants them to eventually take over the United Planets, as he let slip in #2. (I trust that he's planning something a little more in line with due process than an armed takeover, but I can see the logic from his perspective--if it's broke, fix it; if you can't fix it, throw it out and replace it with something better. And the whole premise of the Legion is that the UP is broke.) That's major, sure, and it's something Cos would probably like to know sooner rather than later, even if there's no evidence that Brainy is doing anything about it presently. There's no question that Brainy's insubordinate, either, that being the whole point of the sending-Timber-Wolf-in-against-Cos'-direct-orders plot. But I'm not actually seeing anything that looks like he's trying for Cos' job. That he might want it, sure, but not that he's taking concrete steps to achieve the goal. Most notably because, well, in that case shouldn't he be trying to get some of the other Legionnaires on his side? Instead of insulting them at every opportunity? As of #7, there are exactly two people who he seems to have any kind of special understanding with. One is Timber Wolf, who's...not in the Legion. And the other is Invisible Kid, who not only is the newest member but who as of this issue is on Cos' side. So that's not much of a faction, is it then? (And no, Nura doesn't count. If she likes him, it's surely not because he's trying for it.) I don't even see him trying to cast doubt on Cos' decisions; there's a perfectly good speech to be made about how Cos underestimated the situation Garth and Imra were in and wasn't it a good thing Brainy sent backup? As the situation currently stands, I'm not sure Brin made that much of a difference, but the speech is still workable, and Brainy didn't make it. I get that Brainy makes Cos nervous, because he goes off and does things without consulting with anyone else, and just telling him "don't do that" demonstrably does not get him to knock it off, and also there’s that "want to take over the UP" thing, but working purely from what I see in the issues I don’t see where Cos is getting "attempted coup."

It would also seem to go without saying that Cos' method of handling the situation is not exactly ideal; it’s not just that it's unethical, it's that where the hell were the intermediate steps? Brainy committed clear insubordination in the matter of Timber Wolf; why isn't Cos dealing with that in a procedural manner? (And if they don't have a procedure for that, they need to. This is a team with Ultra Boy on it.) Somehow I can't see that letting Brainy's actions go without (apparent) consequence and then resorting to ransacking his workplace behind his back is the best way to handle the situation. I appreciate the difficulty of the situation, because it's entirely possible that Brainy just isn't going to listen to anything Cos says or does--he hasn't before--but as far as I can tell Cos isn't trying that hard to make him, either.
