A new Deadshot series!

I am not, mind you, expecting miracles. In fact I'm trying real hard not to expect anything at all. My Deadshot is written by John Ostrander and/or Kim Yale, who reinvented and defined him, and I don't know that anyone else can capture that character for me. (Although Gerard Jones took an interesting stab at it once, but there was just too much melodrama in that story.) And I don't know anything at all about this writer--has he even done comics before?

But still! Deadshot! My very favorite sociopathic assassin with a deathwish! My inner fangirl of evil just cannot help but go squee.

Yeah, see, I can only see that as good news. Although, did you see the new costume? That's... special :-).

Hmm... Well, I suppose that makes sense considering what happened to his son. Are all Deadshot minis going to be about his kids, I wonder?

I dont know, this is supposed to set up a deadshot ongoing I think, kinda a setting him upo for the future kinda series. not redefining him so faras giving him a ne piece of humanity that he has always been missing...

I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up, because I love the character so much and I don't want to be disappointed...but I've now found an interview with the writer (http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16339) and
a four-page preview (http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16508), and I'm really starting to think this could be good.

(Plus, it's got Green Arrow! How can I not want a book that has Deadshot and Green Arrow?!)

Although, did you see the new costume? That's... special :-).

*cough* Yes. Special. Granted that it's stealthier than the standard version, but on the other hand he's still wearing bright red and a full facemask...

My initial reaction to this premise, I confess, is that it sounds worryingly like the standard trap for a series about a villain: make him into a hero, and lose all the things that made him interesting in the process.

On the other hand, I might have had that reaction to the premise of the initial mini, too, and I think that was genius. Gage evidently has a strong grounding in Who Floyd Lawton Is, he's allowing him to keep his body count, and in any case My Deadshot has always had his altruistic moments. So. I'll wait and see.
