Yesterday I was sitting in the bus stop area, comfortably engaged in my book, when I heard the approaching noise of someone yelling something. It took me several moments to decipher that he was shouting, over and over again, "The Jews crucified Christ." *winces*

(Yes, I think we can take it as read what set this off, and in fact there is a movie theater in the direction he was coming from. At five-thirty I would consider it unlikely that he'd just come out from the movie, but not impossible. While it is doubtless unfair to criticize a movie I haven't even seen because of the behavior of one of its viewers, I can't say that it encourages any charitable feelings in me.)

Still shouting, he moved on to the end of the street, where the subway terminal is, and stayed there--perhaps intending to convey his message to the exiting travellers--until a couple of amused-looking police officers went over to talk to him. I don't know what they said, but he stopped shouting and went away.

On the one hand, this was disturbing to hear; on the other hand, having it delivered in the manner of a street loonie shrieking that the world is ending is probably the best way to discredit it. Certainly no one in the area seemed to be impressed; they were all either ignoring him or snickering. Let's hear it for really stupid bigots, I suppose.

O.o
Public transport, always an adventure. I once was at a bus stop and there was this guy clad in something that looked like a fur, sort of dancing around. Though at least he didn't really try to engage other people so everybody could politely ignore the weird behavior, it's harder when crazy people try to talk to you, or yell at you (or at someone invisible only they see who happens to be in your direction). At least I'm by now used to the old woman barking at people and talking in a fairly obscene way about how all men are pigs and only want sex, because she often uses the same busline as I, so I'm not ruffled by that anymore. Though seriously the grossest thing are (drunk) guys fondling themselves. I mean once when I waiting for a night bus there sat this guy on a bench who even took his dick out, well started to anyway until another woman yelled at him that he better zip his pants again... Ick.

"The Jews crucified Christ."

and if you really were a christian, which i seriously doubt, you would be damn glad they did, since it was the vehicle through which your salvation was secured. >_<

damn, damn, damn, i halfway want to d/l this movie (since i would never pay for it....) just so that i could be rationally judgmental. ^_~

and i thought i had released my bile on this already (http://www.livejournal.com/users/trixie_chick/86883.html#cutid1). some things will never fail to make me mad.

Responding late...

Yeah, I know what you mean, although it sounds like you've had more adventures than I have--mainly I just get guys trying to pick me up on the subway. But this was really out of the blue; the bus stop terminus is in a nice little suburban area (read: boring) where generally the most exciting thing that will happen is someone will try to sell you flowers. So it was a little like being suddenly invaded by the Twilight Zone.

I know how you feel about the movie. The idea of watching it horrifies me--quite apart from any motivations of principle, I can imagine few less enjoyable ways to spend two hours than watching someone be brutally tortured. But in not watching it I'm kind of handicapped in being able to make any actual assessment of it (specifically in this case whether the guy is responding to the actual movie or just bringing his own biases to bear, although either way he's got problems).

Your rant is both eloquent and honest, and I applaud it (I missed it at the time, and am glad to see it now). It's always good to hear from Christians who really are Christians.

The worst I had was when on my regular line (that was on the stop before I usually get off for my home) someone ran into the bus at the stop, and this other guy was after him with a knife, yelling (no idea what that was about), and the driver managed to close the door before the guy with the knife, but he smashed the window, trying to attack, and the bus driver started to drive with this maniac hitting the windows, while the driver called for the police. Man, I was never so glad as that day that guns aren't as common here as in the US. I mean had that lunatic had a gun he undoubtly would have *shot* at the bus to get to this guy, not just wielded a knife and smashed the door windows.
