I love my local library, I really do. But I'm amused.

Like other libraries I've been to, they classify their graphic novels in a very specific way, namely by treating them like comic strips. So all the graphic novels, regardless of content, are shelved under 741.5 in the young adult section. There are a couple mangas that reside over in juvenile, but mostly it's YA. This does tend to lead to things like SWAMP THING sitting next to LEAVE IT TO CHANCE, but hey, at least I know where they all are.

The full oddity of this system, however, had not struck me until just now, when I was looking at the catalog entry for a copy of the Dark Phoenix Saga, and noticed that it has a NONFIC listing.

That's right, Dark Phoenix is non-fiction. There are telekinetic mutants out there achieving godlike powers, being corrupted into wearing skimpy black lingerie, and eating planets. At any moment a Shi'ar ship might show up to demand that all redheads display their psychic identification. So watch it. :)
