Going on a massive binge of the Saiyuki manga while redecorating, while an excellent distraction, does mean that I have to keep reminding myself that when Sanzo keeps being a complete hypocrite about talking about non-attachment and holding nothing, he doesn't actually mean "You have too many DVDs. Stop that."
(Although I'm sure that would be what he meant if he knew me. Even aside from being an ancient Chinese monk who doesn't currently own anything that won't fit in a Jeep, I don't think Sanzo has a lot of interest in personal possessions that can't be used to threaten someone with. Box sets probably don't count.)

(And obviously in Sanzo's philosophy non-attachment doesn't apply to cigarettes, Sutras or monkeys. I don't think he owns anything else other than his gun and his clothes.)

None of my boxsets are metal, so he'd probably do better with one of the hardcover trades. Though then again we're talking about someone who dispenses justice with a paper fan; I'm pretty sure he could whack someone with a cardboard case hard enough to hurt. (Do you think he ever gets mixed up about what's in which sleeve and goes after the youkai with a fan?)

He's got a lighter, but that goes with the cigarettes, and reading glasses, which are functional. Other than that, no, I don't think so. The guy's spent his entire life living in monasteries, hunting through the wilderness, or travelling in a jeep; physical possessions have not featured heavily in there. (And the one thing he had as a kid, his prayer beads, he gave away.) Sutras aside, it's not objects that he gets attached to.
